Chapel Club
London-based indie band Chapel Club caught my ear this evening with their rather impressive track “Surfacing”, currently available for streaming on their MySpace page.

Finer Things in Mac
If, like me, you’re interested in the nuances of OS X, particularly in the evolution to Snow Leopard, “Finer Things In Mac” is documenting many of the smaller changes and is also a great way of discovering tricks you might not already know about.

Don’t worry if someone else is already working on your idea. I’m certain they are, but they are decidedly not you and it’s the you that makes your idea unique.

I’m pretty fussy when it comes to my desktop wallpaper — I generally like something fairly uniform and muted in colour which is easy on the eye. So when I took this photo I was pretty sure it would fit the bill and make for a nice wallpaper. I’ve been using it for a couple of days on my laptop, and for now I rather like it. I might sort something out for dual monitors at some point but, for now, there’s 16:9 widescreen and 4:3 regular aspect versions available for download at all the usual resolutions, right up to 2560x1600.

OS X Dock - 'Ghost & Glow' Edition
Keith Lang, designer at Plasq who make applications like Skitch, has some interesting ideas for improving the Dock’s behaviour when files are dragged to applications. The mockup provides a much better visual cue for which applications can accept the filetype in question. See also his previous iteration.

Libraria da Vila bookstore in Sao Paulo
Libraria da Vila looks like an amazing piece of architecture. From the rotating bookshelves repurposed as doors to the huge, comfy areas for reading it really brings the focus back to what’s so great about the printed word. I hope it proves successful.

FuckYeahSubways is a blog with some great photography focusing, not on foot long sandwiches as you might hope, but all things underground and train-based. There’s some great photography, including this entry from Flickr’s ‘jbremer’ of the London Underground.

Elbow — Running To Stand Still
U2’s “Running to Stand Still” is one of my all time favourite songs, from one of my all time favourite albums. So, whilst I was intrigued to hear Elbow’s cover of it for the “War Child: Heroes” album, I wasn’t really expecting it to hold up. I was wrong — it’s superb, paying homage, whilst taking nothing away from the original.
